Apple does it, everyone does it, while it can help stop spam, it also helps criminals to maintain yet another layer of anonymity. In a business transaction or in a financial transaction, you have a fundamental right to know who you are doing business with.

Word of advice.
If someone says they have a company but use a GMAIL without a company domain name in the email address.... sorry, but not sorry...
Point one:
If they can't afford a domain name email for their company, they are a shoddy company and a poor administrator.
Point two:
Where there is no company domain, there is often no company.
Point three.
If they are not transparent about identity, then expect fraud.
